A divisional marketing officer of AP State Handloom Weavers’ Co-Operative Society Limited (APCO) was caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials while he was demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 70,000 from a women welfare group. APCO divisional marketing officer M Prabhakar Reddy had demanded Rs 70,000 as bribe to process and issue a cheque in favour of a Warangal-based women welfare group Ramya Mahila Samkshema Sangam represented by K Shobha Rani for Rs 2,21,840 towards payment for stitching charges for uniforms to girl students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) of Warangal and Khammam districts.
The accused officer demanded a staggering 30 per cent of the total payment as bribe that had left the complainant no alternative but to approach the ACB. Based on victim’s complaint, the ACB officials on Tuesday apprehended the accused officer and produced him before I additional Special Judge for ACB Special Cases in Hyderabad. ACB officials said that both the hands of the accused officer tested positive in the chemical test.
